The Cathedral of Trento, also known as the Cathedral of San Vigilio, is the primary church in Trento. It was constructed on the site of a temple that was originally dedicated to the patron saint, Vigilio. The construction started in the 11th century. In 1212, Federico Vanga, who was one of the most influential bishops, had a vision for the future architectural development of Trento. With this in mind, he made the decision to completely demolish the existing cathedral and rebuild a new one in the Romanesque-Lombard style. The Council of Trent's seat, where the Catholic Church was restored, overlooks the charming Piazza del Duomo. Every Thursday, the city market brings life to the square with its delightful scents, aromas, and lively chatter. The cathedral is open for visits every day from 9:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.
